The White-tailed deer is the most sought-after big game animal in North America — and for good reason. No quarry tests a hunter's patience, woodsmanship, and field judgment quite like a mature whitetail buck. At El Chital Ranch, we manage our whitetail population with the same rigor we apply to our legendary Axis herd, producing consistently heavy-antlered, mature bucks season after season.
Our 4,000 acres of native McCulloch County brush country provide ideal whitetail habitat — dense senderos for bedding, protein-rich native forbs and supplemental feeders, and an abundance of year-round water sources. We practice strict age management, never harvesting bucks before they reach their full genetic potential at 5½ years of age or older.
The Texas rut typically peaks in November across our region, transforming otherwise nocturnal, ghost-like bucks into daylight movers pursuing does through the cedar and live oak corridors. This is when El Chital comes alive — guides positioned in elevated blinds overlooking active scrapes, calling and rattling to draw in dominant bucks at the height of their breeding season.
Whether your goal is a Pope & Young class archery trophy or a high-fence-free rifle hunt on a mature 150"+ deer, our whitetail program delivers an authentic, fair-chase experience on wild Texas ground.
